Mentors

Mentors play a key role in supporting beginning teachers and teachers new to the diocese as they actively analyze and reflect about instructional decisions. Mentors support them as they apply the teaching and learning cycle to their instructional practices. Through collaborative conversations, observation and feedback, mentors support beginning teachers and teachers new to the diocese by helping them meet their professional growth goals.


Mentor expectations:

• Get to know your beginning teacher through informal conversations, meet regularly
• Provide in-depth instructional mentoring through differentiated mentoring supports using one-to-one mentoring, co-teaching, and/or cohort collaboration as needed
• Model good instructional practices
• Offer suggestions for improvement
• Provide professional and personal support
• Tailor support to lead to deeper understanding of teaching and learning
• Use the Mentor Toolkit
• MAINTAIN a confidential relationship
